Our Story: The Salesian Mission Comes to Tatale

Don Bosco Technical Institute (DBTI), Tatale, is a faith-based technical and vocational institution of the Salesians of Don Bosco, located in the Tatale Sanguli District of Ghana’s Northern Region. Established in 2020 within the mission of Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Tatale, the Institute was founded to bring quality skills training to young people in one of Ghana’s most underserved regions under a simple, powerful motto: “Learn a Trade, Earn a Living.”

Founding

Don Bosco Technical School, Tatale, began in the year 2020, born of the Salesian presence at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Tatale. The pioneering Salesian community comprised Fr. Ivans SDB, the parish priest and Rector of the Community; Fr. Nichodemus, assistant parish priest; and the late Brother Francis Berisie, the Economer of the community — whose contribution the Institute remembers with gratitude.

The Institute’s skills programme was first sponsored by BINA, a German NGO whose slogan captures the school’s purpose to this day: “Learn a Trade, Earn a Living.”

The Salesian mission is the education and evangelisation of young people, especially the less privileged — transforming them into honest citizens and good Christians through skills training.

Growth

Since its establishment, the Institute has trained over 1,500 young people in Electrical Engineering, Building and Construction, and Catering and Hospitality. Among them, some have been employed by companies, some are self-established entrepreneurs, and others have furthered their education in tertiary institutions for higher certificates. The Institute gives thanks to God, who has made this possible through the mission of the Salesians of Don Bosco at Ss. Peter and Paul Parish, Tatale.

Learn a Trade, Earn a Living.

Today

Today, the Dominic Savio Community, Tatale, is made up of Fr. Joseph Gymfi (Rector of the Community), Fr. Mmuoka Cornelius (Principal of Don Bosco Tech), and Fr. Paul SDB (Economer of the community). Through its participation in the VIS Ghana SEE Project, supported by the Italian Agency for Development Cooperation (AICS), the Institute is now building its digital future: its first institutional website, strengthened ICT facilities, and new digital skills for staff and students.
